New Stuff

We continue to add new stuff to the website.

There's a new Q&A concerning the proper exegesis of Ephesians 2:8-9. You'll find it on the Q&A page and the "What's New" page. It's entitled "What is the Gift in Ephesians 2:8-9?"

And I have not forgotten about the Romans series. The latest installment, "R45 - Romans 12:5-9" is now available on the "Listen" page. Scroll down to find the most recent Romans' messages.

Or, you can click here:

He Is Sovereign / Lexington 2005

As promised, I've managed to upload the video of the message "He Is Sovereign" from the 2005 Sovereign Grace Conference in Lexington, KY.

This message reaches back into my ponytail days. But, in audio form, it has been one of our most popular and oft-requested sermons.

So now, once again, you can view "preaching in action." Just click the link.

Again, this is a large file, so depending on your download speed it may take a bit of time. This is one of those occasions when patience is indeed a virtue.

Looking back 25 years

In an earlier blog entry I mentioned that I've been learning how to encode video for broadcast over the Internet. I also mentioned that I may post some pieces of my rock'n'roll past. Well, true to my word, I have done just that. It's been up on Google video for several days and those folk who have already discovered it have encouraged me to link to it from my blog so that our readers can enjoy seeing a bit of my mis-spent youth. I agreed to post it here, if for no other reason than to prove that I once had hair. And, what was the deal with those over-sized glasses? Remember when those were considered fashionable? Yikes!

Well anyway --- back in the early 1980's I was part of a recording/touring band called "707." In 1981 we performed on several TV programs to promote our new album and upcoming tour with REO Speedwagon. We were on The Mike Douglas Show, Solid Gold, and The Midnight Special, hosted by Wolfman Jack. (If you remember any of those shows, you're showing your age.)

This first clip is from The Midnight Special, where we played our first chart hit, "I Could Be Good For You." I co-wrote this song with our original pianist, Duke McFadden.

So, put on your dancing shoes, break out your air-guitar, and rock along with the Wolfman. Just click here -

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, It's Off To Mom's I Go

The kids and I are packed up and ready to get in the car. We're headed for Tuscaloosa, AL. for the Thanksgiving festivities. Consequently, there will be no Wednesday meeting or message. Also, if you've sent me an email recently, I'll reply when I get home.

Enjoy your Turkey-Day and remember to thank God for His manifold blessings!

Now, where are those car keys ... ?

Preaching on Google Video

This photo is actually a "screen shot" from the video taken while I was preaching at the 2006 Sovereign Grace Conference in Lexington this year. For the last several days I've been learning how to convert video from the DVD I brought home from Lexington so that I could post it on the Internet. I went through several different video formats attempting to find one that Google video would accept. They kept getting rejected --- or, the one that did finally process came out grainy and it jumped all over the place.

Well, I think I've finally got it figured out. So, if you'd like to watch "preaching in action" instead of just listening to my disembodied voice, you can click here:

Jim in Lexington 2006

It is a fairly large video file, and despite being converted to a Flash Video, it may take time to download if you have a slow connection. Be patient.

But, it looks pretty good and plays pretty well. We have taken the next leap into the brave, new world.

Thanks to Andrew Doss for his input in getting this up and running. Now that I have some idea what I'm doing, I may put several other clips up on the 'net. Who knows? Maybe even some early TV appearances from my early rock'n'roll career --- just so you can see how far we've come. :-)

By the way, Google video does allow you to post comments on this video.

Be nice.

The Murfreesboro Post

Recently a newly-established local newspaper appeared in my mailbox. It's a weekly paper that is distributed for free all over Rutherford County. What caught my eye was that it was very well done, well printed, and it concentrated on local events.

I opened it to page three and discovered a "Sunday sermon" by a local Catholic priest. At the bottom of the page I found an email address soliciting other pastors in the area to submit short articles for future publication --- so of course, I sent one.

Well, I was contacted this past week requesting a picture and was informed that they would be using my article "So, What's the Big Deal With Jesus?" in their Nov. 12 edition (on news stands now).

The article also appears on their website (sans picture). So, I thought I'd provide a link for our national readers to see what we're doing here locally.

You can read the article here: Murfreesboro Post Article

Thanks to the folk at the Post for including us!
